What is Tangles & Ties?

My blog is called Tangles & Ties.

I realised many years ago that I simply cannot knit!  Traditional knitting just did not click for me.  I was introduced to a knitting Nancy when I was a child, and then on a visit to a charity shop many years later, I found a similar one, and just had to buy it.

It quickly became my new hobby, and I wanted to learn more.  I found more non traditional knitting techniques, and I knew that I had found something that brought me immense joy.

From the beginning, I knew I wanted my work to reflect not just creativity but also responsibility. That’s why I chose to use natural, eco-friendly yarns. Natural yarns, made from materials like wool, organic cotton, and bamboo, are far better for the environment than synthetic alternatives. Unlike synthetic yarns, which are made from petrochemicals and can take hundreds of years to decompose, natural yarns are biodegradable and renewable. They require less energy to produce, avoid the use of harmful chemicals, and have a smaller carbon footprint overall.

By using natural yarns, I’m not only creating beautiful, functional pieces but also contributing to a healthier planet. The yarns I choose are gentle on the environment and offer the added benefit of being durable, breathable, and often more comfortable against the skin.

This commitment to sustainability is as important to me as the techniques I use—it’s about making something that’s not only good for the person who wears or uses it but also good for the world we all share.

My Mission

Knitting that does not follow the rules!

The mission I have is simple.  To empower individuals to shape the future of the planet by investing in eco friendly accessories and home decor, all created using non traditional knitting techniques.

But it is more than that.  I am a bit of an eco-warrior, and I wanted to marry my love of non traditional knitting with helping the planet and its sustainability.

By using natural, eco-friendly yarns, I’m committed to creating beautiful, lasting pieces that are gentle on the environment.

The yarns I use and recommend are specially chosen so that they have as little impact on the planet as possible.   They biodegrade so much quicker than synthetic yarns.  Examples are linen, bamboo, lyocell, organic cotton, and plant based yarns.

As these fibres contain no plastics, they are more comfortable to wear and allow your skin to breathe easier.

Each item is crafted with care, reflecting my dedication to both quality and sustainability. No two yarns are the same, so each item is that little bit different.

Together, we can create a greener future, one handcrafted item at a time.
